Elder Interviews and Traditional Ecological Knowledge
The first step in River Source's theory of change engages us in community learning, investing in activating curiosity about how land, water, and plants have been used and changed in the local area based on what people have experienced in the past. We seek people who, like us, want experiences in learning about traditional ecological knowledge about how people valued water and land in the past, particularly seeking to learn what principles guided how people had productive relationships with water, forests, and rangelands. These stories from people who have lived there often form the basis of shaping how land and watershed conservation work gets done successfully going forward.
